What a photo, eh?
I saw it and thought "wow, he really is Black. And he's our president. We really have a Black president!" and got teary all over again.
Almost as amazing, the fact that he really is poor--or grew up that way. He really is just a person--an amazingly talented, incredibly gifted, fabulously lucky person, but a guy you might have bumped into ten years ago on the bus. In fact, since moving to Chicago, it's amazing how many people I have met who have their basic "bumped into Obama on the bus" stories.
I forget, because he looks so presidential behind podiums, etc. But standing next to all those other guys? It really looks like change, doesn't it?

It certainly does. Amen.

I lurk a lot and I hate to come out and de-lurk with this particular comment (because I LOVE your posts and your stuff on Strollerderby), but can we please remember that Barak Obama is bi-racial.
If we're going to refer to him as black, we could just as easily refer to him as white.
Maybe I've got my own personal issues with it because I'm bi-racial myself. Anyway. Not trying to pick fights. Just trying to clarify.
And, true to your post, this Chicago native has bumped into Obama at my gym. Several times. He's definitely the basketball player. No doubt.

Hallelujah!!
And yes, I like the bi-racial label best personally, because my son is of a blended ethnicity as well, but I guess it's really whatever Obama prefers? I like the Tiger Woods approach best: he's not African American, or White, or Thai, he's simply an AMERICAN!!

When I saw that photo, I could hear a Chris Rock like voice saying "Sure give it to the Black dude during one of the shittiest times ever. And all the white guys are laughing, thinking 'better you than me'."
But it still made me happy to see the photo.

Well, I am just SO happy that my little girl is growing up in this time, how great for her to see a President who looks like her! And his little girls are only a few years older then my kiddo. Its going to be amazing for her to see them in photos and the media when she is a bit older.
