Something Old: They Don't Build 'Em Like They Used To
Cole and I have been doing a little real estate window shopping lately. We may have to leave our beloved condo behind sometime in 2008.
The stuff we've been looking at has mostly been post-war (WWII) construction. I love older construction. Our current place was built in the 1920's and it shows in the details. Nothing we've seen has this kind of crown molding, original tile flooring,
floor-to-ceiling built-in cabinetry. And if you want to add those things these days, it costs a fortune.
Here's to original details nearly a century old!

Oh man, here in Chicago they have sections of the city that are pre-fire, and those condos are the best. They have flooring detail like the one you're showing here, and I LOVE it.
Everything we saw that was brand! new! in the city was totally fugly and cheap prefab and the fittings didn't fit.
I mean, okay yay marble countertops and whirlpool bath, but could you make the doors actually fit into the doorframes, please?
I love real estate window shopping.
Thanks for sharing!

I love the old! Thanks for the post. You've reminded me why I still love our older home, even though it doesn't have all the updates (live-in basement, etc.) of a three-bedroom ranch.
