Brilliant. Thank you.

Once again, this is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I am so intrigued by the Christian culture you grew up in because it is so very opposite the one I grew up in! It is refreshing to know that schools and families and churches like the ones that contributed to your identity exist within Christianity.

Amen. I feel frustrated by modern feminism at times because I feel like certain branches often push the idea that feminism is the fact that women can do everything men can do plus things that men can't do. And I don't know why so often men are the standard that women have to match up to. It's not even a reasonable starting point. Being a woman, being a mother and a nurturer and a partner--being anything at all female--is a powerful, holy thing that is full of worth on its own without any need for comparison.

Lisa

Every sentence of this is awesome.

I think the whole idea where feminism got a bad name and the feminazi jokes were a brilliant PR ploy by men in power. I think we need to take that word back. But in the end, it is all humanism at the core, isn't it? That we are all human and although are not identical with identical needs, we all need equal access and respect in all areas. The imbeddedeness of inequality is so great in so many facets of life that you are right, we do need every person working every angle for the revolution.

I'd also be interested in hearing more about your Christian/Catholic upbringing. I knew a few girls from Catholic Girls School and they were definately not praying to "Our Mother..." But I do think that girls having the opportunity to be educated separately from males can inherently be a feminist action.

Anyway, Great Post and great NaNoBloPo effort!

Just want to say that I am really going to miss seeing new posts every day! It's been great! And by the way, I love my new earrings.

Thank you for writing this, even if I did have to wait until the end of the month for it! :)

I feel like I have a much better idea of where you're coming from--thank you for sharing your educational/social background. It's very different from mine and explains why I have some struggles you don't (but of course we both have some).

Yes, women are fully human. But that's the problem with humanism: it allows humanity to be defined by states and their laws (hence women not getting the vote for so long and a black person being 2/3 of a person until so very recently). It's been such a struggle to incorporate all these subaltern identities, one at a time, into the category "human." And as you mentioned, it's not over yet. Nat's and Selina's mothers are certainly not functionally granted that status, and neither are you as a lesbian (and as a lesbian mother) in terms of marriage, health benefits, etc. Why not have a sense of "personhood" that included everyone born--of all races, abilities, national/ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations (and more than just 2), physicalities, habits, languages, socioeconomic statuses...If only we didn't have to add these one at a time.
